yea your man said it wouldn't be a recognised cert but it would set ya off on the road to a radio career and you would make contacts. to be honest i don't see myself going for it this year anyway.

maybe we've uncovered a big scam.
anyway, it's an interesting area. i'm sure there'll be coverage of it on the radio and so forth so we can get an idea of what it's like.

SPANKO: here's his reply
I understand your concerns. I cannot guarantee outcomes; there are too many factors including talent of the student, specific openings at stations and so on. All I can say is that I have credibility with 98fm, NewsTalk 106 as well as an industry body called Learning Waves ( I am part of a panel discussion at their major day/conference of the year in March) and that the knowledge gathered at the course will certainly put you ahead when you walk into meet someone more so than if you had not done it. In terms of what particular jobs you can apply for after the course, that’s a bit like saying, ‘before I start my teaching course, where will I be able to get a job?’ Who knows? But there are a lot of radio stations in Ireland of different sizes and standards, so I could not imagine there are not people looking for talent. In terms of where it stands you with it on your CV, it simply shows people you have done the course and therefore have a good basic understanding of the industry as a whole and have training under your belt, which again must put you ahead of the person next to you of similar talent/experience, who has applied for the same job, but has not undertaken any training.
As far as contacts go I deal almost every day with the GM of 98fm & NewsTalk, News Director of both and Program Director of NewsTalk as well as the Group Program Director of Communicorp who own all three station as well as many throughout Europe, so without wishing to sound immodest, I do have some reasonable contacts.
I hope that helps Sean. As I said I can understand where you are coming from, but can not be more specific than that; I believe the course will help; 98fm, Spin & NewsTalk have backed me to the tune of many thousands of dollars worth of advertising for the course, so they must think it has some merit; reaction has been strong so there are people out there who think it can help them, so I think there is a place for the course in the industry.
As I always say, the only things guaranteed in life are death & taxes!
Thanks again for the frank feedback and I hope this may have been of benefit.

Regarding Radio Academy Reply:
He really knows how to write emails doesn't he? It's still a bit iffy, but i suppose you'd have the course experience and maybe initiate contacts in the industry. I think i'll finish off my Multimedia Degree first, then think about it. Cheers for posting the reply tho. What ya think yourself?
