Whats everyones opinion on drugs, addicts, recreational users etc. Myself I dont touch any drugs, I feel sorry for the strung out addicts but the biggest problem is the recreational users funding the big drug dealers.

blaming recreational users is, i suppose, a NEW way of looking at it. Recreational users are creating a market for them but, trust me; it will fall on deaf ears. Recreational users don't really care. The same way people in my job WASTE ridiculous amounts of paper, they dont give a shit about the rainforest. Recreational drug users in Dublin don't care about the other activities they are funding.
To be honest i dont know who to blame. Maybe that's the problem. The government have always tried to put the blame on someone and now we, with discussions like this, are trying to find someone to blame. It wasn't so long ago that the recreational user was rarely mentioned. It was all, dealers dealers dealers, importers importers importers. The garda are publicly losing the battle so they have now turned to the recreational user as a way of finding blame.
Yes they are finding huge amounts of drugs but its not making any difference to the average Joe soap on the streets. If Joe bloggs in ballymun can't get any hash off his regular dealer, he just rings his old dealer. Worst comes to worst he has to get the bus into town. God forbid. Drugs nowadays are being used by an unbelievable amount of people. You hear of barristers, doctors, builders, and managers...it's no longer such a horrid thing in many people's eyes. People are holding down weekend addictions and full time jobs. for an eye opener go into town any Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. The pubs, clubs and early house's are rampant. I've been in pubs at 60th birthdays and people were doing coke. I've been in early houses with a couple of 100 people, who were still dancing from the nite before. (including some well known television faces)
In answer to Ur question kev, i dont know. Who does? Nothings gonna change after this topic is gone. its Christmas. More money will be spent on drugs for Christmas nite, then turkeys for Christmas dinner.
(Some names may have been changes in the writing of this rant. i do not try to glorify and or condemn drugs and or drug users. drugs are a bad thing...FACT. certain people should not use drugs for recreational uses, some people can. differentiating these people is near impossible until its too late...for some)

you dont know if legalisation is the answer? you cant tell if something like that would be a failure unless you try it. in saying that, i dont think legalisation would be the answer but it could help in some circumstances.
anyway in this country there is no point in discussing legalisation as an answer becasue the government would never listen to it. they would never even dream of it. that is unless...england did it first!

Say we legalise it here, then every dealer in europe would use Ireland as a base.

but who would they get it off? the government would only distribute recorded amounts to particulr outlets. in amsterdam each coffee shop is only allowed hold 2 or 3 ounces on the premises at any time. there prices are not cheap so it eliminates the chance of a third party making a worthy profit on it.
the government would import amounts of the legalised substance. they would be imported in registered, protected containers. any "illegal" imports would still be hunted down by import officials and gardaí. the government would charge the same as the street dealer. eliminating the huge profits being made.
anyway its all wishful thinking. hash, cannabis and or weed is the only thing they would ever legalise. its the coke that is the problem in this country.

Most of europes big drug dealers are based in Holland, due to there laws, dont forget about heroin aswell as coke, wait till crack gets bad though.

thats true. but another huge majority of europes drug dealers are based in spain too. and no drug is legal there. holland is a lot more liberal with their citizens. in ireland we purposely turn a blind eye. in holland you can get your xtc tested in a nite club b4 u take it. to make sure its ok for consumption. in ireland we just pretend people dont take E. could you imagine minister mc dowell allowing xtc testers in nite clubs in town. oh no. instead he'd say that were going to eliminate the xtc.
yeah crack will be a nightmare. was talking to a garda a while ago and he said that it is already becoming a problem.
